Democracy in the US: July 4, 1776 - January 20, 2010

I know that, strictly speaking, we're supposed to be a republic (rule of law) rather than a democracy (rule of the majority). Either way, it was a pretty good run, but going forward, we have institutionalized the notion of all the freedom money can buy.

Google, as a third party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on my blog. Google uses The DoubleClick DART cookie to help marketers learn how well their Internet advertising campaigns or paid search listings perform. Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google Privacy Center.

Google's AdSense policy states that third-party advertising companies who serve ads on my blog may use information gathered when you click on the ads in order to provide advertisements about goods and services of interest to you. The policy says that the information gathered may not include your name, address, email address, or telephone number.

As of April, 2009, Google is introducing "Interest-based advertising". Interest-based advertising will allow advertisers to show ads based on a user's previous interactions with them, such as visits to an advertiser website and also to reach users based on their interests (e.g. "sports enthusiast"). To develop interest categories, Google will recognize the types of web pages you visit throughout the Google content network. As an example, if you visit a number of sports pages, Google will add you to the "sports enthusiast" interest category.
